Kerecis Receives Premier Sustainability Award
We are really proud to acknowledge that one of our customers, Kerecis, has been awarded the Premier’s Sustainable Product Award for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
Turning Icelandic cod skin into a lifesaving solution
At its core Kerecis’s innovative business model is a revolutionary model: turning sustainably sourced Icelandic cod skin, which would otherwise be wasted, into life-saving medical devices that help heal and regenerate tissue. This “waste-to-value” model is a resounding reminder of the fact that there can be thoughtful intention behind design which can benefit not only human health, but also the health of our planet.
A new benchmark: Slashing CO₂ emissions by over 90% in MedTech
Sustainability is part and parcel of everything Kerecis does. The manufacturer operates on 100% renewable energy and has shown to have a lower environmental impact than competitors. CO₂ emissions are only 5 tons per employee at Kerecis compared to the industry average of 57.5 tons, and thus Kerecis is establishing a new precedent for responsible manufacturing in the medical device sector.
"Sustainability is not a secondary initiative for Kerecis, it’s foundational to our business model,” said Fertram Sigurjonsson, founder and CEO of Kerecis,
when he accepted the award. This philosophy is directly in line with Kerecis ethos of seeking progress through innovation, but with respect for the planet’s resources.
Congratulations Kerecis!
Kerecis being recognized is a testament to the fact that the greatest solutions are typically those that generate value in harmony with nature. We would like to congratulate everyone at Kerecis for this recognition. Their work is not just changing healthcare, but it is shaping a more sustainable future for medicine.
